Mohini Ekadashi Vrat Katha

Dharmaraja Yudhishthira said: O Lord! I greet you You have explained in detail about the Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Vaishakh month i.e. Varuthini Ekadashi. Now please what is the name of Vaishakh Shukla Ekadashi? And what is his story? What is the method of this fast, tell it all in detail.

Lord Shri Krishna started saying: O Dharmaraja! Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month is known as Mohini Ekadashi. Let me tell you a story, which was told by Maharishi Vashistha to Shri Ramchandraji. Please listen carefully Rajan.

Mohini Ekadashi Vrat Katha:-

Once upon a time Shri Ram said that O Gurudev! Tell me any such fast by which all sins and sorrows get destroyed. I have suffered a lot in the separation of Sitaji.

Maharishi Vashistha said: Oh Ram! You have asked a beautiful question. Your intellect is very pure and pure. Although by remembering your name one becomes pure and pure, yet this question is good in public interest. The Ekadashi that comes in the month of Vaishakh is named Mohini Ekadashi. By observing this fast, a person gets rid of all sins and sorrows and becomes free from temptation. I tell its story. Listen carefully.

In a city named Bhadravati on the banks of the Saraswati river, a Chandravanshi king named Dyutiman ruled. There also lives a Vaishya named Dhanapal, a wealthy and virtuous person. He was extremely pious and a devotee of Vishnu. He had built many restaurants, drinking water, wells, lakes, dharamsalas etc. in the city. Many trees of mango, jamun, neem etc. were also planted on the roads.

He had 5 sons – Sumana, Sadbuddhi, Medhavi, Sukriti and Dhrishtabuddhi. Of these, the fifth son Dhrishtabuddhi was a great sinner. He did not believe in the father etc. He used to gamble in the company of prostitutes, wicked men, indulged in luxuries with other women and used to consume alcohol and meat. Similarly, in many misdeeds, he used to destroy the wealth of his father.

Due to these reasons, his father threw him out of the house. After coming out of the house, he started earning his living by selling his jewelry and clothes. When everything was destroyed, the prostitute and the wicked companions left her side. Now he started feeling very sad due to hunger and thirst. Seeing no help, he learned to steal.

Once he was caught, knowing he was the son of a Vaishya, he was let off with a warning. But got caught again the second time. This time he was put in jail by order. In the prison he was subjected to great suffering. Later the king asked him to leave the city.

He left the city and went into the forest. There they started eating wild animals and birds. After some time he became a fowler and started eating animals and birds by beating them with bow and arrow.

One day, being troubled by hunger and thirst, he wandered in search of food and reached the hermitage of sage Kaundinya. At that time it was Vaishakh month and the sage was coming after taking a bath in the Ganges. He gained some wisdom when his wet clothes splattered on him.

He started saying with folded hands to Kaundinya Muni that: O Mune! I have committed many sins in my life. Tell me a simple way to get rid of these sins without money. Hearing his humble words, the sage was pleased and said that you should fast on Mohini Ekadashi of Vaishakh Shukla. Due to this all the great sins like Mount Meru, committed for many births, are also destroyed.

Hearing the words of the sage, he was very pleased and fasted according to the method prescribed by him.

Oh Ram! Due to the effect of this fast, all his sins were destroyed and in the end he sat on Garuda and went to Vishnuloka. By this fast all attachments etc. are destroyed. There is no better fast than this fast in the world. By reading or listening to its greatness, the fruit of one thousand cow donations is obtained.
