Putrada / Pavitopanna Ekadashi Vrat Katha

Significance of Putrada / Pavitopanna Ekadashi:-

Shri Yudhishthira started saying that Oh Lord! I heard a detailed description of Kamika Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Shravan month. Now you give me the name of Shravan Shukla Ekadashi? Please tell the method of fasting and its significance. Madhusudan started saying that the name of this Ekadashi is Putrada Ekadashi. This Ekadashi is also called Pavitra Ekadashi.

A person observing Putrada Ekadashi fast must listen to the story of Shravan Putrada Ekadashi fast after worshiping, by doing this the fast is fulfilled and wishes are fulfilled. Now listen to its story in peace. The fruit of Vaipayi Yagya is attained only by listening to it.

Putrada / Pavitopanna Ekadashi Vrat Katha:-

At the beginning of Dwapar Yuga there was a city named Mahishmati, in which a king named Mahijit ruled, but the king did not find the kingdom pleasing due to being sonless. He believed that for those who do not have children, both this world and the hereafter are painful.

The king took many measures to get the happiness of the son, but the king did not get the son.

Seeing old age coming, the king called the representatives of the subjects and said: O people! I do not have unjustly earned money in my treasury. Nor have I ever snatched the wealth of deities and brahmins. I did not even take anyone else's inheritance, kept raising the subjects like a son. I kept punishing criminals like sons and kinsmen. Never hated anyone. Everyone is considered equal. I always worship gentlemen. I don't have a son even though I rule a righteous kingdom like this. So I am feeling very sad, what is the reason for this?

To consider this matter of King Mahijit, the ministers and the representatives of the subjects went to the forest. There he saw great sages and sages. For the fulfillment of the best wishes of the king, he kept on seeing a great ascetic sage.

In one of the ashrams, he saw a very old man of religion, a great ascetic, selfless in God, Jitendriya, Jitatma, Jitkrodha, the knower of the esoteric elements of Sanatan Dharma, the knower of all the scriptures, Mahatma Lomash Muni, whose kalpa was spent. A Rome fell when it happened.

Everyone went and bowed to the sage. Seeing those people, the sage asked that for what reason you people have come? Of course I will do you the best. I was born only for the benefit of others, don't doubt it.

Hearing such words of sage Lomash, everyone said: O Maharshe! You are more capable than Brahma to know us. So you clear our doubts. The righteous king of Mahishmati Puri follows Mahijit's subjects like a son. Still, she is sad because of being childless.

They further said that we are his subjects. Therefore, we are also sad because of his sorrow. With your vision, we have full faith that this crisis of ours will definitely go away because many troubles are removed by the mere sight of great men. Now please tell me the way to become the son of a king.

Hearing this conversation, the sage closed his eyes for a while and after knowing the story of the previous birth of the king, started saying that this king was a poor Vaishya in his previous birth. Being poor, he did many bad deeds. It used to go from village to village to do business.

Once, at midday on the day of Dwadashi of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month, when he was hungry and thirsty for two days, he went to drink water at a reservoir. At the same place, a thirsty cow that was immediately married was drinking water.

The king removed that thirsty cow after drinking water and started drinking water himself, that is why the king had to bear this sorrow. Being hungry on the day of Ekadashi, he became the king and because of removing the thirsty cow by drinking water, he has to bear the pain of separation from the son. Hearing this, everyone started saying that O sage! Atonement for sins is also written in the scriptures. Therefore, how can this sin of the king be destroyed, please suggest such a remedy.

Lomash sages started saying that on the Ekadashi of Shravan Shukla Paksha, which is also called Putrada Ekadashi, all of you should fast and wake up at night, then this sin of the previous birth of the king will definitely be destroyed, as well as the king must get a son. Will be

Hearing such words of the sage Lomash, all the subjects including the ministers returned to the city and when Shravan Shukla Ekadashi came, everyone fasted and awakened Putrada Ekadashi as per the orders of the sage.

After this, the fruit of its virtue was given to the king on the day of Dwadashi. Due to the effect of that virtue, the queen conceived and at the end of her childbearing period, a splendid son was born to her.

That's why, O Rajan! This Shravan Shukla Ekadashi was named Putrada. Therefore, those who wish to have children, must do this fast. By listening to its greatness, one becomes free from all sins and after enjoying children in this world, one attains heaven in the hereafter.
