Bhishma Panchak:-
Bhishma Panchak Dates - November4,2022-November 8,2022
Bhisma Panchaka is the name given to the final five days of the Kartika month. For these five days, Grandfather Bhishma fasted in preparation for his impending death. He gave sermons on the Raj Dharma, Varna (community), Moksha (salvation), and other types of Dharma. Shri Krishna remarked, "Pitamah, I am happy with the righteous teaching you have given from Ekadashi to Purnima," following Bhishma's speech. In the name of Bhishma Panchak Vrat, I commit these five days to your remembrance. Whoever keeps this fast will ultimately find redemption after taking delight in a variety of earthly pleasures. Since that time, Bhishma Panchak is revered.
Regardless of how Kartika-Vrata is observed, the final five days should see intensified devotion.
"Vaisnavo na sa mantavyah samprapte kartike mune
Yo na yacchati mudhatma dipam kesva sadmani"
Meaning:-O wise one, one is not regarded as a Vaisnava if one does not light a lamp in the temple of Lord Keshava during the month of Kartika..”
In order to receive the benefits of the four chaturmasya fastings, one must observe these days of Bhishma Panchaka fasting. Various Levels of fastings for Bhishma Panchak are :
Level-1
One should eat one type of product of the cow each day:
Day 1: Cow dung (Gomaya)
Day 2: Cow urine (Go-mutra)
Day 3: Cow milk (Kshiira)
Day 4: Curd made of cow milk (Dahi)
Day 5: All the above products of the cow(Pancha-gavya)
Level -2
If one can't follow Level-1 then s/he can take fruits (with less number of seeds), boiled potatoes, raw bananas, sweet potatoes, sendha namak, cashew nuts, raisins, and dates. Milk and milk products cannot be taken on this day.
Type 3
If one can't follow level 2, one can take Havishya( without Mung dal, sesame oil, Beta-shaka, Shashtikaa-shaka, Radish, Jeeraa, Tamarind)
Offerings:-
As per the Garuda Purana, the following flowers are to be offered to the Deities during the Bhishma Panchak:-
Day 1: Padma to the feet of the Lord.
Day 2: Bilva to the thigh of the Lord.
Day 3: Gandha to the navel of the Lord.
Day 4: Java flower to the shoulders of the Lord.
Day 5: Malati flower to the head of the Lordship.
Tarpan:-
To honor Bhismadeva, one should ideally bathe in the Ganges or another sacred river each day and recite the following mantra three times while giving Tarpana:-

om vaiyaghra padya gotraya
samkrti pravaraya ca
aputraya dadamyetat
salilam bhismavarmane
Arghya
vasunamavataraya
santanoratmajaya ca
arghyam dadami bhismaya
ajanma brahmacarine
Pranam
om bhismah santanavo birah
satyavadi jitendriyah
abhiradbhiravapnatu
putrapautrocitam kriyam
One of the fasts that are frequently performed since it aids in salvation is Bhishma Panchak. I offer up prayers for everyone who is celebrating Bhishma Panchak this year to achieve spiritual growth.
