Putrada Ekadashi Vrat Katha
Putrada Ekadashi Vrat Katha
Maharaj Yudhishthira
asked- Oh God! You have done a lot of favor by telling the significance of Saphala Ekadashi. Now please tell me what is the name of Paush Shukla Ekadashi, what is its method and which deity is worshiped in it.
Bhaktavatsal Lord Shri Krishna said - O king! The name of this Ekadashi is Putrada Ekadashi. In this also Lord Narayan is worshipped. There is no other fast than the fast of Putrada Ekadashi in this variable and immovable world. By virtue of this man becomes ascetic, scholar and Lakshmivan. I tell a story about it, so listen carefully.
A king named Suketuman ruled in the city of Bhadravati. He had no son. His wife's name was Shaivya. She was always worried because of her innocence. The fathers of the king also used to take the pind weeping and used to think that after this who will give the pind to us. The king was not satisfied with any of these brothers, brothers, brothers, wealth, elephants, horses, kingdoms and ministers.
He always used to think that who would do Pind Daan to me after my death. How can I repay the debts of the ancestors and the gods without having a son? In a house where there is no son, there is always darkness in that house, so efforts should be made for the birth of a son.
Blessed is the man who has seen the face of a son. He gets fame in this world and peace in the hereafter, that is, both his worlds get better. Son, wealth etc. are obtained in this birth only by the deeds of the previous birth. In this way the king used to be worried day and night.
At one point the king decided to give up his body, but considering suicide as a great sin, he did not do so. One day, thinking like this, the king got on his horse and went to the forest and started watching the birds and the trees. He saw that deer, tigers, pigs, lions, monkeys, snakes etc. were all roaming in the forest. The elephant is walking between its babies and the elephants.
Somewhere in this forest, jackals are speaking in their hoarse voice, somewhere owls are making sounds. Seeing the scenery of the forest, the king got engaged in contemplation. In this way half a day passed. He started thinking that I performed many yagyas, satisfied the Brahmins with delicious food, yet I felt sorrow, why?
The king became very sad due to thirst and started wandering here and there in search of water. At a distance the king saw a lake. Lotus was blooming in that lake and cranes, swans, crocodiles etc. were residing. The ashrams of the sages were built around that lake. At the same time the right limbs of the king started trembling. The king, taking it as a good omen, got down from the horse and sat down paying obeisance to the sages.
Seeing the king, the sages said - O king! We are very pleased with you. What do you want, so tell me.
The king asked- Who are you sir and why have you come here? Please tell me
The sages started saying that O king! Today is Putrada Ekadashi, who gives children, we are Vishwadev and have come to take a bath in this lake.
Hearing this, the king said, "Maharaj, I too have no children. If you are pleased with me, give me the boon of a son.
The sage said - O king! Today is Putrada Ekadashi. You must observe this fast, by the grace of God you will definitely have a son in your house.
Hearing the words of the sage, the king observed Ekadashi fast on the same day and passed it on Dwadashi. After this, after bowing to the sages, he returned to the palace.
After some time, the queen conceived and after 9 months they had a son. That prince became very brave, successful and Prajapalak.
Shri Krishna said - O king! Putrada Ekadashi should be fasted for the attainment of a son. The person who reads or listens to this greatness, he attains heaven in the end.
