Maharaj Yudhishthira said- O Lord! You are the lord of the three worlds, the giver of happiness to all and the husband of the world. I greet you Hey, God! You are the well-wisher of everyone, so clear my doubts and tell me what is the name of Margashirsha Ekadashi?

Which deity is worshiped on that day and what is its method? please tell me Bhaktavatsal Lord Krishna started saying that Dharmaraja, you have asked a very good question. By listening to this, your fame will spread in the world. Margashirsha Shukla Ekadashi is the destroyer of many sins. Its name is Mokshada Ekadashi.

On this day, Lord Damodar should be worshiped with incense, lamps, naivedya etc. with devotion. Now I will tell a story from the Puranas in this matter. A king named Vaikhanas ruled in a city named Gokul. Brahmins who knew all the four Vedas lived in his kingdom. That king used to take care of his subjects like a son. Once in the night the king had a dream that his father was in hell. He was surprised.

In the morning he went to the learned Brahmins and narrated his dream. Said- I have seen my father suffering in hell. He told me that hey son, I am lying in hell. You free me from here. I have been very restless ever since I heard these words. There is a great disturbance in the mind. I do not find any happiness in this kingdom, wealth, sons, women, elephants, horses etc. What to do?

The king said - O Brahmin gods! My whole body is burning because of this sorrow. Now please tell me some kind of austerity, charity, fasting, etc. such a remedy, so that my father can get salvation. The life of a son is meaningless who cannot save his parents. One perfect son who saves his parents and ancestors is better than a thousand foolish sons. Just like one moon gives light to the whole world, but thousands of stars cannot. The brahmins said - O king! Nearby here is the ashram of the mountain sage, the knower of past, future and present. They will definitely solve your problem.

Hearing this, the king went to the sage's ashram. In that ashram many calm minded yogis and sages were doing penance. The mountain sage was sitting at the same place. The king prostrated the sage to the sage. The sage asked the king Sangpang Kushal. The king said that by your grace, everyone is well in my kingdom, but suddenly there is a lot of disturbance in my mind. Hearing this, the mountain sage closed his eyes and started thinking of ghosts. Then said, O Rajan! I have come to know your father's misdeeds by the power of yoga. He gave Rati to one wife after being sensual in the previous birth, but at the behest of the saut, did not give it to the other wife even after asking for Ritudan. Your father had to go to hell because of that sinful act.

Then the king said, tell me some solution for this. The sage said - O Rajan! You fast on Margashirsha Ekadashi and resolve the virtue of that fast to your father. With its effect, your father will surely be freed from Hell. Hearing these words of the sage, the king came to the palace and observed the fast of Mokshada Ekadashi along with his family according to the sage's advice. He offered the virtue of his fasting to his father. Due to this effect, his father got salvation and while going to heaven he started saying to the son - O son, be your welfare. Saying this he went to heaven.

Those who observe a fast on Mokshada Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Margashirsha month, all their sins are destroyed. There is no other fast that gives salvation than this fast. Reading or listening to this story gives the fruits of Vaipaya Yagya. This fast gives salvation and fulfills all desires like Chintamani.
