Genealogy of the Daughters of Manu

Genealogy of the Daughters of Svāyambhuva Manu

Svāyambhuva Manu, the first Manu in Hindu cosmology, and his wife Śatarūpā played a crucial role in the creation and expansion of human civilization. They had three daughters: Ākūti, Devahūti, and Prasūti, each of whom contributed significantly to the lineage of sages, demigods, and divine beings that shaped the cosmos.

  • Ākūti was married to Ruci (a Prajāpati), and their son Yajña was an incarnation of Lord Viṣṇu, later becoming Indra, the king of the demigods.
  • Devahūti married Kardama Muni, and her lineage led to several great sages and divine beings.
  • Prasūti was given in marriage to Dakṣa, who fathered sixteen daughters, many of whom were married to powerful deities like Dharma, Agni, and Śiva. The most notable among them was Satī, who became the wife of Lord Śiva, and Mūrti, who gave birth to Nara-Nārāyaṇa, an incarnation of Lord Viṣṇu.
